sxml:
sxml is a generic SGML/XML text extraction and replacement utility. The software comprises the following components:
  1. Full ISO 8879 and XML 1.0 DTD parsing, to identify all elements and their attributes, including full external entity manager support including DocBook and SGML Open Technical Resolution TR9401:1997 catalog file support. Includes a full non-validating ISO 8879 and XML 1.0 parser.
  2. Support for in-line (do not break linguistic integrity) and main elements.
  3. Automatic identification of in-line elements from DTD analysis.
  4. Support for translatable attributes - for both main and in-line elements.
  5. Additional analysis available based on document instance.
  6. Full transparent and automatic identification and support for SGML and XML.
  7. Allows flagging elements as - do not translate - the text for these elements will not be extracted.
  8. Full support for extracting text from CDATA and RCDATA marked sections.
  9. Full support for UTF8, CJK, all ISO8879 and Windows code pages on output for XML.
  10. Allows for CDATA text within attributes and element text (as opposed to marked sections).
  11. Full support for 'hanging' element text (both widowed and orphaned) if intrinsically in-line elements have to be treated as main elements.
  12. Automatic handling of quotes within translated attribute text.
  13. Text is extracted in OpenTag format - the XML based industry standard for text extraction.
  14. Support for XML schemas and name space.
SXML is available as an application and as a series of utility libraries that can be built into your own applications.
